I t has been too many years since !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - and now we have two units of microRusEfi running a v12 with DBW just for fun.
Anyone can make himself his own microRusEfi for about $50. Well, there are caveats - you would have to be making ten microRusEfi for about $500, and there will be no case. Step #1: order 80% assembled PCBs from jlcpcb, about $160 for ten boards. Step#2: order the missing eight components per board from mouser. Step#3 solder those eight components - and you get yourself a fully programmable ECU for 4 cylinders with DBW.

It’s still not the Smart ECU we are dreaming about, it’s still a steep learning curve - but maybe that’s your kind of fun.

What are the advantages of this, versus something like a megasquirt?

I bought a fully assembled Micro RusEFI ECU for my W201 190e (getting M111 supercharged swap) with electric throttle control, coil on plug, launch control, you name it. The ECU assembled WITH pigatail harness was 250 bucks.... name another ECU you can do all that for so cheap. I am loving it.

megasquirt is a great proprietary product tied to it’s 20 years old technology, this is community driven project based on much more modern technologies and software practices. I believe there are no legal $99 megasquirts with DBW? W e still have a lot of hardware potential to implement smarter ECU at some point in the future, while many legacy produces are bound to the limits of their CPU.
